The Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg is one of Germany's younger universities. Located in the northwest of Germany, and officially founded in 1973, its roots actually go back as far as the teachers seminar that was begun there in 1793.

 

With over 80 majors, the University of Oldenburg offers a wide interdisciplinary spectrum of research-oriented fields of study. Its particular focus is found in teacher training, gender studies, acoustics, computer science, neurobiology, as well as the environmental- and energy research that comprise the international Renewable Energies department. The University of Oldenburg was also one of the first German universities to convert its course structure to the international Bachelors and Masters tracks.

And with its 12 affiliated institutes, the University of Oldenburg's activity goes far beyond the campus as it maintains a close cooperation with a multitude of different companies and research institutions throughout the region.  Furthermore, the University of Oldenburg has partnership agreements with over 40 universities worldwide.

The University of Oldenburg is seeking to break new future ground at the intersection between the natural and social sciences, all while continuing to expand its existing research focal points.  The University of Oldenburg sees the concept of lifelong learning as one of its key educational tasks.  The equality of men and women is seen as a guideline for university policy, along with the creation of a family-friendly research, work, and educational environment.
