Founded in 1998, Malmö University is located in the city of Malmö in southern Sweden. Once a declining industrial city, Malmö is now a dynamic region steadily growing into a modern centre of learning, a development in which Malmö University plays a leading part.
From analysing the affects of mixing children from different cultural backgrounds in one school to focusing on Swedish attitudes to interethnic marriages, Malmö University plays a key role in pinpointing and offering solutions for society.

The needs of society are often the starting point for our research. Malmö University has four faculties and one school which conduct research and education within subjects such as migration, integration, sustainable development, bio-medicine, media, sexology, mental health, sports, education, criminology, real estate, education and politics. In the 13 years since the university was founded, our research has been underpinned by partnerships and cooperation with the public sector, industry and universities from around the world.
Membership in the Dorich House Group enables us to build on existing relationships while providing us with the opportunity to create new and exciting opportunities with other universities.
With more than 25,000 students and a campus located both in the harbour of the city and in its centre, Malmö University is part of the heart of Malmö. A globalised city of 300,000 inhabitants from 170 different nationalities, Malmö is a diverse melting pot in which one in three residents has foreign roots.
As a result of the diverse ethnicity of Malmö the university is well positioned to conduct research about migration and ethnic relations and has conducted leading research through the Institute for Studies of Migration, Diversity and Welfare. This comprehensive research institute addresses a range of issues including discrimination and segregation.

The city itself is the research subject when it comes to the study of urbanisation. Malmö University bases its Urban Studies research in local issues and offers conclusions with global relevance.
