(Aug 2011) Changes at the member institutions

Some of the member institutions have appointed or elected a new Head in recent months:

Prof. Dr. Remzi Sanver as the new Rector at Istanbul Bilgi (from February 2011)
Professor Julius Weinberg as the new Vice-chancellor of Kingston University (from April 2011)
Dr  Eduardo González Mazo as the new Rector at the Universidad de Cádiz (from July 2011)
Professor Stefan Bengtsson  as the new Vice-Chancellor of Malmö University (from August 2011)

 

(Aug 2011) Publication about the Dorich House Group

An article written by Joan-Anton Carbonell, coordinator of the Dorich House Group, will be included in the new book ‘Developing Strategic International Partnerships’ to be published by the Institute of International Education based in New York. The article describes the process followed to create the Group.

 

(Dec 2010) Välkommen Malmö
Malmö University has become the eighth member of the Dorich House Group after the decision taken by the Steering Committee in its meeting in Vilnius last November. The new institution will be gradually joining all initiatives run by the Group.

 

(Nov 2010) New Vice-Chancellor for Kingston University
Professor Julius Weinberg, Deputy Vice-Chancellor at City University London, has been appointed Kingston University's new Vice-Chancellor. He will take up his new role in spring 2011, following Professor Peter Scott's retirement from Kingston in December.

 

(May 2010) Former US President Bill Clinton has accepted the role of Honorary Chancellor of the Laureate International Universities network, which Istanbul Bilgi University is a part of. President Clinton will advise this group of universities on social responsibility, youth leadership and increasing access to higher education.

 

(April 2010) Library and Information Services: The Universidad de Cádiz is organising a meeting of representatives of the Library and Information Services from all member institutions to explore the possibilities for collaboration.

 

(April 2010) Double degrees: A meeting at Mykolas Romeris University to discuss procedures and regulations for double degrees will be attended by all DHG members.

 

(March 2010) Istanbul Bilgi University established the Murat Sertel Centre for Advanced Economic Studies, in honour of the late Professor Murat R. Sertel, an internationally reputed Economic Theorist (http://mscenter.bilgi.edu.tr/)

(February 2010) Prof. Dr. Babette Simon has been appointed as the new President of Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg

(January 2010) Prof André Tiran is elected as the new President of the Université Lumière Lyon 2

(January 2010) The Universidad de Cádiz has been awarded an International Campus Excellence label by the Spanish Ministry of Education in the framework of the 2015 Strategy.

 

(November 2009) The Steering Committee and the Operational Group of the Dorich House Group met in Istanbul on November 6 2009. The Annual Report was presented, highlighting the great level of success for the first year of the network.
A number of important decisions were taken, including:

  • To organise a meeting  to draft the conditions for double degrees
  • To approve the Mission Statement
  • To set the conditions for the admission of new members
  • To create a triumvirate to govern the Group with the current, previous and next Chairs
  • To make the arrangements for a formal secretariat from 2010
  • To approve the Action Plan for 2010 including new actions involving the Learning Resources Centres and an increase in mobility and participation in European projects.

 

 

The Dorich House Group is holding three Research seminars in Istanbul (Migration), Kingston (Ageing Population) and Oldenburg (Ecology and Sustainability).  The outcomes of the seminars can be seen on the Research section of this website.
